Yaktraxs Work Great
I purchased two pairs of Yaktrax Walker Shoe Crampons before a hike up Mt LeConte in the Smoky Mountains. We hiked to the top 6,593 ft in 12 inches of snow. The Yaktrax helped even more on the trip down the mountain the next day. Some of the snow had melted and refrozen causing lots of icy spots. People without extra traction on their shoes were having a hard time keeping their footing. We made it down the seven mile hike in three hours.
I just call them my Trax
I am now a huge fan of Yak Trax! We had a horrible ice storm here and sadly I didn't get my Trax ordered until after that ice storm but now with the snow melting and freezing at night I have been using my Trax every day. I can't live without them.
Breaks and falls off
I have burned through two pairs of YakTraxs. I got the cheap $20 version. I've had the rubber coming over the toe break on two separate occasions, all the first trip out. I do a lot of hiking in and around Boulder where the trails get snow-packed. I've also had one fall off and not notice and it was never heard from again. I would not recommend this to anyone. Perhaps it's just my size 10.5 boot is a bad size for the size range that is advertised. I'm going to try the YakTrax pro and see if that helps at all.
