Yakima LoadWarrior
Yakima overload!
Anyone considering a cargo basket please look no further than a LoadWarrior. Yakima is very conservative with their load capacity ratings. I actually mis-read my Volvo's roof rack load rating at 300lbs. when in fact it was actually only 200lbs. I travelled over 3000 miles around Arizona, Nevada, California with roughly 280lbs of gear on the Yakima low profile racks, LoadWarrior, extension, & stretch net. I had no problems except for overhead clearance issues in drive-thru restaraunts and underground parking structures. Of course this is mainly because I overloaded the basket. Upon my departure, I along with many of my neighbors expressed concern that either my rack or my car would surely break. I am here to say that I travelled through curvy mountain roads, windy overpasses, and average highway speeds of 75 MPH with no issues whatsoever. Yakima's cargo basket will satisfy virtually any roof load demand on small to mid size SUV's. I can only imagine that the larger mega-warrior would be great for the larger SUV's. D. Kal
YAKIMA LOADWARRIOR
I replaced a new Thule cargo rack with a Yakima LoadWarrior! The Yakima had a cleaner mounting system, with great accessories (HiLift & Shovel mounts). The Yakima had a much better fit and assembly than the Thule. But Yakima mounting hardware left a lot to be desired. The handscrews are difficult to tighten, and have loosened with age. The bolt ends protrude up into the cargo space, which could scratch or rip the cargo. Both Yakima and Thule have lost their level of quality control and good design over the years. But Yakima is still my choice.
Good way to haul a lot of gear
This is a great way to stow a lot of gear on top of your SUV. I use it with the extension as well, making it over 5' long. If I had to do it over again, I might have chosen the MegaWarrior since it's a bit wider, but on top of my Montero it only looks a little skinny. It holds a lot and is very solid. I'm very pleased with it. I recommend getting the additional locks for this if you think it might get stolen--one downside of their making it easy to install and remove.
looks great, less filling
Load-warrior is sweet because it will fit directly on factory racks, Yakima or Thule racks. The Load-warrior is perfect for a smaller SUV like a Rodeo, Cherokee, Passport, Explorer, Trail-Blazer, etc. But a word of warning to Expedition, Tahoe or Suburban owners, this is probably too small. I mean, it will still hold gear, but it looks wussy. I would recommend the Load-Warrior stretch net along with the Load-Warrior.
Yakima LoadWarrior
This was a great purchase. I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the spare tire was mounted under the rear bumper. Now it's in my Yakima Load Warrior on my roof. It looks better and stays clean in the event of a flat tire plus there is room for extra gear and Yakima sells an extension if I need even more cargo room. The only other thing I need now is a tire step to make it easier to get the tire down and access the roof rack but other that that this was great!
