Just What I Needed
As a result of a herniated disk I needed to reduce my load while hiking and lower the weight onto my hips. I carry light weight rain pants and jacket, dry underwear top, wool shirt, Montbell Alpine Light Down Jacket, wind breaker, liter bottle half full, and incidentals (snack, Leatherman tool, tape, etc.). This comes to about 10 lbs. However, I needed to get the optional shoulder strap accessory to keep the top of of the pack close enough to my back to feel comfortable.


Cairn II
This is a great little pack! I wish it wasn't discontinued. As a student of natural resources I am out in the field a lot for research and classes. This pack has served me well and carried everything I have needed. The rain cover is another great feature. It has kept all my gear dry in a many a deluge. I also carry it for my indoor classes and it can fit an 11 x 8 1/2 notebook and textbook easily. I highly recommend this pack it is well made, versatile, and comfortable.
