Decent jacket with decent features
This is my first technical jacket. The jacket is light-weight and not bulky. The zip-in compatibility is a big plus. I often shed the outer layer when I don't need it and its a snap to zip it back in. Styling is clean and simple. There are enough pockets available in the right places. On the negative side, the insulating layer is not as warm as I wanted it to be. I found myself shivering when I took it to Mt. Whitney in October. You will definitely need one more insulating layer. The hook-and-loop on the flaps of the pockets of the outer layer are just plain annoying. The hood feels a little bulky when rolled up within the collar. Overall, it is a good jacket if you don't need extreme cold protection.

I tried this one on in the store and ordered it from this site. Great coat at a good price. Should be perfect for the impending Michigan winter...
Very good for the right conditions
The Precip shell is waterproof, fairly light, and quiet. The hood is well designed, as you would expect from a Marmot product at this price. The zip-out shell makes the combo serviceable to around 25*. I think this coat excels in the kind of cold and wet conditions common in the northwest. It keeps you dry and warm without a lot of fuss, and looks very nice doing so. It would also likely make a good choice for spring or fall camping where rain and moderately cool temps are expected.
